Province is located in China's Southeast coastal adjacent
to Shanghai, China largest city.
Hangzhou City is the capital.
Population
Zhejiang covers a total area of 101,800
square km with a total population of 44.56 million. The
province is noted for its picturesque scenery.
Industry & Manpower
Zhejiang is famous for its abundance
products and is widely known as a "Land of fish and
rice". It is also well-known for its silk and tea. Agricultural
products in Zhejiang include cotton, rice, wheat, tea,
etc. While the industries major in electronic products,
machinery, textile, foodstuff and high-tech commodities.
There are more than 100 thousand local companies and
factories in Zhejiang, recruiting about 1.3 million
workforce. In additional, 0.5 million skilled workers
are being employed in 25 thousand foreign investment
companies.
Zhejiang is also well-known for its mechanical manufacture
such as tool & die, mould & jig, and garment
manufacturing. It is also noted in its manpower exportation.
Till now, about 20 thousand various skilled workers
has been provided to employer overseas.
Education
Zhejiang has been noted for the
high level and complete nature of its education. At
present, there are some 148 out of 10,000 who have educational
level of college or university. The former Zhejiang
University, Hangzhou University, Zhejiang Agriculture
University and Zhejiang Medical University have been
merged into the new Zhejiang University, which is now
the largest institution of higher learning in China
with most complete system of disciplines and departments.
In 1998, a total of 2.73 million workers, labour and
farmers have attend and trained at either the urban
and rural cultural or technical schools.
